PVC Table Protector Cutting Process Explained | V-Cutting Tool + Oscillating Knife for High-Precision Edge Finishing

2026-06-11

In the manufacturing of PVC table protectors, achieving smooth edges, no burrs, and no edge lifting is a key quality requirement.

During CNC cutting of flexible PVC materials, traditional single-tool cutting may result in edge deformation and increased post-processing work. To address this, many manufacturers adopt a combined cutting process using a V-cutting tool and a high-speed oscillating knife. This dual-tool approach is widely used in signage production, packaging prototyping, and customized PVC table protector manufacturing, as it improves cutting accuracy and production efficiency.

V-Cutting Tool: Grooving for Stable Cutting Structure

The V-cutting tool is used at the initial stage of the process. It operates at a cutting speed of around 300–1500 mm/s and is suitable for materials such as PVC sheets, KT board, corrugated board, and honeycomb board. Instead of cutting through the material completely, the V-knife creates a precise groove along the design path, helping define the structure and stabilize the material during the final cutting stage.

This grooving process plays an important role in PVC table protector production because flexible materials may shift or deform under cutting stress. By pre-defining the cutting path, the V-cutting tool improves shape control and helps reduce the risk of tearing or inconsistent edges.

Oscillating Knife: High-Speed Precision Cutting for PVC Materials

After grooving, the oscillating knife completes the final cutting process. It uses high-frequency vibration technology, reaching up to 17,000 RPM, and is suitable for cutting flexible materials such as PVC table protectors and low-density plastic sheets.

Instead of traditional blade slicing, the oscillating tool cuts through the material using rapid micro-vibrations. This reduces resistance, improves cutting smoothness, and enables high-precision contour cutting.

A key feature of this system is the white protective cover. During cutting, flexible PVC materials may experience slight edge lifting due to vibration forces. The white cover applies downward pressure to stabilize the material, helping prevent deformation and supporting a flatter, cleaner cutting edge. This structure contributes to improved consistency in PVC table protector production.

Combined Cutting Process: V-Cut + Oscillating Knife Workflow

When used together, the V-cutting tool and oscillating knife form a two-step cutting system. The V-knife creates a groove without fully separating the PVC material, and the oscillating knife then follows the same path to complete the final cut. This helps maintain material stability during processing while allowing precise and clean separation at the end.

Compared to single oscillating knife cutting, this combined process can improve edge quality. The finished PVC table protectors show smoother edges, reduced burr formation, and less edge lifting. In many production environments, this method may also improve cutting efficiency by around 30%.

Applications and Industrial Advantages

This cutting solution is widely used in the production of PVC table protectors, transparent desk mats, KT board signage, packaging samples, and display products. It is particularly suitable for OEM and custom manufacturing, where consistency, appearance quality, and production efficiency are important.

The final products feature smooth, safe-to-touch edges, high dimensional accuracy, and stable industrial-grade quality. For manufacturers and OEM suppliers, this process can improve product appearance, reduce labor costs, and increase production throughput, making it a practical solution for modern CNC cutting applications.
